When, due to fear and greed, sense of insecurity and impatience etc., we opt for the second option, we ourselves shield our immediate mind from our inner voice or consciousness – we ourselves decide to become unconscious, that is, selfish. Total unconsciousness is the symptom of death and absolute consciousness is the symptom of full life. There are intermediate stages of life through which individuals are either increasing their consciousness or oppressing it.

At this stage is worth quoting Aldous Huxley. Huxley says “The aim of the psychiatrist is to teach the (statistically) abnormal to adjust themselves to the behavior patterns of a society composed of the (statistically) normal. The aim of the educator in spiritual insight is to teach the (statistically) normal that they are in fact insane and should do something about it”.

Unswerving patience is possible, if we believe we are parts of nature and our needs (distinct from selfish desires) are identical to the needs of nature, that is, we are children of Mother Nature and are in the process of growing up in post-natal lives through successive stages. Yoga means integration or union with inner voice, sympathy and empathy etc. Growth, obviously, does not mean growth of the body alone; it essentially means the growth of consciousness and love. The more our consciousness grows, the more we become aware of aspects that are invisible to selfish individuals, who are living in various states of unconsciousness – precisely as per their own choices.

The unadulterated child of Mother Nature is united to Mother Nature through emotional umbilical chord (Yoga-Yukta) and keeps growing in spirit without ever becoming precautious or adult.

Duality
Even when the child is almost fully-grown in spirit, there still exists “duality” (Daitya) – i.e. there is (1) the child, and there is (2) the Mother Nature (Savikalp).

Non-DualityAt the final stage, Mother Nature delivers her brave child. The child and the Mother Nature become ONE (Nir-vikalp), which is the end of “duality” or attainment of ultimate “non-dual” state - beyond the scintillating illusions of Maya (Adaitya). The delivered child is now absolute consciousness itself and is characterized by, but not influenced by its own power, i.e. intoxicating illusions of Maya.

Consciousness

Life is a journey from partial consciousness to impartial consciousness.
